Welcome to the Accutane Message Boards. As you probably know, Accutane (also called Isotretinoin) is a prescription medication used to treat severe cases of acne. 

While there were some minor side effects to linked to this drug, it wasn't until recently that people became aware how serious they can be. 

If you've had experience (good or bad) with Accutane, please take the time to post your message in the forum below. 

We especially would like to hear how this drug fared for older people with drier mature or aging skin. There are plenty of older adults who suffer from acne too. 

This drug was originally approved in 1982 for severe and resistant cases only.

And at least 5 million people have taken it. While the drug did have warning of birth defects, many patients included women were of childbearing age. 

However, lately severe sides have been attributed to the use of this acne medication.

Researchers have been investigating the link between Accutane and the following side effects:

• IBS
• Crohn’s disease
• Colitis
• Loss of vision
• Loss of hearing
• Growth disc problems
• depression
• suicidal tendencies

While these and other side effects are being investigated, the FDA did report 37 suicides by Accutane users and 110 users hospitalized for attempted suicide and depression. 

But, remember that many people can suffer from depression - as it's pretty common for a number of reasons.

And, some of the reported users already had suffered from depression it before even taking Accutane.....so perhaps more information is need?
